Top Winter Wellness Tips
Boost Your Immune System
Winter is practically the season of sniffles, but with a little planning, you can boost your immune system and avoid the worst of it.
1. Focus on Immune-Boosting Foods
Let’s start with food because, honestly, who doesn’t love a good meal? Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are packed with vitamin C, which helps support your immune system. Add some ginger and garlic to your meals too—they’ve got antimicrobial properties to fight off infections.
And don’t forget about probiotics! Foods like yogurt and kefir support your gut health, which is closely linked to a stronger immune system. So, maybe toss some yogurt with honey and fruits into your breakfast routine!
2. Stay Hydrated
I know it’s harder to remember to drink water when it’s freezing outside, but staying hydrated is a must for keeping your body’s defenses up.
Try swapping some of your water intake for warm herbal teas, or even warm broths, if plain water feels too chilly.
Also, if you’re battling dry indoor air (thanks, heaters!), a humidifier can be a game-changer. It keeps your sinuses moist, making it harder for sickness to get in and cause trouble.
3. Take Supplements Wisely
If you’re like me and don’t get a ton of sunlight in the winter, consider adding vitamin D supplements to your routine. I honestly have made this a staple for my daily intake because I have low vitamin D levels but it's especially important in the winter!
Low vitamin D can make you feel sluggish, so it's great for an energy boost.
Zinc and elderberry are also great immune boosters, but it’s always smart to check with a healthcare professional before diving into new supplements.
Stay Active Despite the Cold
I get it — working out in winter is tough. When it’s cold and dark outside, the couch is so tempting. I've been there. But staying active will keep your energy up and boost your mood!
4. Exercise Indoors
You don’t need a gym to get your sweat on! There are tons of home workouts you can do, like yoga, Pilates, or bodyweight exercises.
Honestly, sometimes I just throw on a YouTube video and follow along. It doesn’t take much space or time, but it makes a huge difference in how I feel.
Fitness apps are also super handy if you want more guidance. Whether you’re into HIIT, dance, or something more chill, there’s an app for you.

5. Embrace Outdoor Activities
If you’re feeling brave enough to face the cold, layer up and get outside! Winter activities like ice skating or skiing are so much fun and don't feel like a typical workout. Even just going for a walk can be refreshing and helps you soak up a little sunlight (when it’s out).
To keep yourself motivated, set a daily goal to get outside—even if it’s just for a 10 minute walk during daylight. It’ll do wonders for your body and your mood.
Prioritize Mental Health and Relaxation
Winter can mess with your mental health, especially when it’s dark and gloomy all the time. Once again, first hand experience! lol
But don’t worry, there are a few things you and I can do to stay ahead of the winter blues.
6. Manage Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
If you’re feeling down or low-energy, you might be dealing with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). *Once again, I am not a doctor and I am not stating that this what you're struggling with. Please see a medical professional for mental health changes.*
Seasonal Affective Disorder is super common in winter. One easy way to combat it is with a light therapy box, which mimics natural sunlight and can help lift your mood.
Also, don’t underestimate the power of mindfulness. Taking just a few minutes a day to meditate or journal can really help reduce stress and keep you grounded.
7. Get Quality Sleep
With all the holiday hustle and winter chaos, it’s easy to mess up your sleep schedule. But getting enough rest is key to feeling your best. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day to regulate your body clock.
Set up a cozy bedtime routine—think warm baths, a good book, and some calming tea. I also love my "vibe-y" skincare routine in this mix!
And don’t forget to put away your phone an hour before bed. Trust me, it’ll help you sleep way better.

Simple Self-Care Tips You Can Fit Into Your Busy Day
Eat Nourishing, Warming Meals
Comfort food is one of the best things about winter, but it doesn’t have to be unhealthy! You can still enjoy cozy meals that are nourishing and good for you.
8. Focus on Seasonal Produce
Winter is the perfect time to load up on root veggies like sweet potatoes, carrots, and parsnips. They’re super filling and packed with nutrients. Try roasting them with olive oil and spices—delicious and healthy!
Speaking of spices, research has shown that warming spices like cinnamon, turmeric, and cayenne pepper, are not only tasty, but also help with circulation and keeping your body warm.
9. Opt for Comforting, Healthy Recipes
Soups, stews, and casseroles are your best friends during winter. They’re easy to make in big batches and freeze for later.
Add plenty of lean proteins like chicken or beans, and you’ve got yourself a hearty meal that fuels you without weighing you down.
Keep Your Skin Hydrated and Protected
Winter isn’t just tough on your immune system—your skin takes a hit too! Cold weather and indoor heating can leave your skin feeling dry and irritated. Let’s fix that! 😉
10. Moisturize Regularly
Switch out your lightweight moisturizer for a thicker lotion or ointment during winter. They lock in moisture better, keeping your skin soft and hydrated.
Pro tip: Apply it right after you shower to seal in moisture when your skin’s still damp!
My winter skin go-to's:
Face: Dermalogica Super Rich Repair Moisturizer
Lips: SpoiledChild Hydro-Lock Overnight Lip Mask
Body: Cerave Moisturizing Face and Body Cream
11. Protect from the Elements
Even though it’s winter, don’t skip the sunscreen! UV rays are still a thing, especially if you’re spending time outdoors.
Oh, and keep a good lip balm and hand cream with you to fight off the dry, chapped skin winter loves to bring.
Stay Cozy and Connected
Winter can feel a bit isolating sometimes, so it’s important to create a cozy, welcoming environment at home and stay connected with your favorite people.
12. Create a Cozy Home Environment
This might be my absolute favorite of these winter wellness tips.... Embrace the cozy vibes! Add some blankets, soft lighting, and candles to make your space feel warm and inviting.
Maybe even set up a little relaxation corner where you can unwind, read, or meditate.
13. Maintain Social Connections
Even when it’s cold outside, don’t let your social life freeze over! Plan virtual hangouts with friends or cozy indoor gatherings to keep those connections strong.
If you’re up for it, volunteering is also a great way to lift your spirits and stay involved with your community.
Embrace Winter with Healthy Habits
Winter can be tough, but with a few small changes, you can totally thrive through the season.
From boosting your immune system to staying active, eating well, and taking care of your mental health, these winter wellness tips will help you feel your best all winter long.
So grab a cozy blanket, whip up a hot drink, and let’s take on winter together!
